A view of the current crisis from the vantage point of an Iranian-American. The Bay Area Iranian-American Democratics (BAIAD) is an active, chartered Democratic club.
BAIAD is a 100% volunteer-based organization that was founded in June 2004 on the basic principle that the time has come for Iranian Americans to develop a powerful political voice and influence by becoming active and responsible participants of American democracy.
BAIAD's mission statement:
BAIAD is a grassroots political organization that stands for protecting the rights and interests of Iranian Americans by empowering the Iranian-American political voice. BAIAD seeks to promote progressive values such as social justice, responsibility and fairness through education, political participation, public and political advocacy, and grassroots activism.

Robert Scheer will discuss current domestic and international political and social issues including his latest book: “Playing President: My Relationships with Nixon, Carter, Bush I, Reagan, and Clinton – and How They Did Not Prepare Me for George W. Bush.”
Robert Scheer is a renowned syndicated columnist based at the San Francisco Chronicle. His column appears in newspapers throughout the U.S. He is co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of the progressive web magazine, www.truthdig.com. He is a panelist on the weekly political radio program “Left, Right, and Center” at KALW in San Francisco.
The 2006 book “Playing President” is the result of interviews with six presidents from Nixon to George W. Bush. He has written six other books including “Thinking Fish, Talking Death: Essays on the Pornography of Power.”, “With Enough Shovels: Reagan, Bush and Nuclear War,” “America After Nixon: The Age of Multinationals,” and the “Five Biggest Lies Bush Told About Iraq” (co-authored by his son Christopher and Laksimi Chaudhry). The latter was on the L.A. Times Bestseller List.
Awards include: James Aronson Award for Social Justice Journalism for Wen Ho Lee article. Also awards from Stanford U., Moscow Academy of Sciences, UC San Diego, and Yale U. & USC School of Social Work.

On our November 17 meeting, we hosted a panel discussion based on the top-selling book, Covenant With Black America, edited by Tavis Smiley, author of eight books, NPR Talk Show Host, Political Activist, and Commentator.
The book covers topics such as education, health care, and correction systems. It addresses the concerns of Black-Americans related to social and economic disparities.
