I really wantd to end 2007 on a more positive note. . .
I really wanted to end 2007 on a more positive notenote, but this recent Philadelphia Inquirer article (U.S. IN THE TIME OF EMPIRE?), by Chris Hedges, who I hold in very high esteem, was too pertinent to pass up. Besides, at times like these it becomes necessary for “patients” to first confront reality before they can be “healed”.
With the Dow sinking another 200 points, the financial system in turmoil, the Iraq occupation dragging on, the national debt reaching new heights, the US dollar crashing, and “democracy”, (or what's left of it), hanging by a thread, there’s not a whole lot to be optimistic about for 2008. Given Mr. Bush's track record, why should we be surprised? What's even more disconcerting is that according to the latest polls, Hillary Clinton is the only major Democratic presidential candidate who currently trails the front running Republican candidates! Facing the prospect of another four years of Republican leadership(?), I may take my chances in a different country!
Well, we can always pray for “divine intervention” like Governor Purdue of Georgia.
...HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
